Be Part of the Action at the Rogers Charity Classic

Join the excitement at the Rogers Charity Classic, an award-winning PGA TOUR Champions event, once again taking place in Calgary from August 11 to 17, 2025.
Now in its 13th year, the tournament attracts thousands of golf enthusiasts to see the action up close and help raise funds for charity. Pro golfer Rocco Mediate — winner of the inaugural tournament — says there’s been significant support since the very beginning.
“All week, all of us players were in shock about how many people showed up,” recalls Mediate about the first Charity Classic in 2013. “The people have come out ever since. It is just an awesome tournament.”
This year, more than 40,000 Calgary-based golf fans are expected to head down to Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club to fill private suites and viewing areas, hang out alongside the fairways and watch some of golf’s greatest players.
One of the highlights of this year’s 13th edition is the 78 legends playing, including Ernie Els, Colin Montgomerie, Vijjay Singh, David Duval, Darren Clarke, and of course, Canada’s own Mike Weir and Stephen Ames, who will all battle it out once again over 54 holes.
Golfing with purpose
The Calgary stop on the PGA TOUR Champions is so much more than great golf. In 2012, a few philanthropic businessmen formed a group called the Patron Group to create the tournament with the hope of impacting the community through golf.
“Since the first day, the Patron Group committed to bringing this event to Calgary. Our decision-making has stayed true to the tournament’s core mission: bring elite golf to Calgary for families to enjoy while making a positive impact on the lives of Alberta youth who need our support,” says Jim Riddell, part of the Patron Group and the tournament chairman.
The Rogers Charity Classic offers a variety of ways to get involved, including a menu of cost-effective opportunities for businesses to achieve their branding, community investment and hosting needs. Companies and clients can golf in the Pro-Am, enjoy fan experience areas and participate in junior and corporate clinics with Champions Tour professionals. All of the event’s efforts remain squarely focused on making a positive mark on its charitable partners.
Together, over the last 12 years, Riddell and his Patron Group, title sponsor Rogers, Calgary’s corporate community and golf fans have raised an unprecedented $137 million that has changed the lives of hundreds of thousands of children connected to the charitable partners. Young Albertans gain new opportunities in education, arts and culture, and sport as well as accessing summer camps.
“Since the beginning, we have exceeded our expectations on every level. None of this is possible without community engagement starting in the heart of Calgary’s downtown. I hope Calgarians, and golf fans throughout the province, will help us continue to ensure the Rogers Charity Classic has a lasting impact on our youth well into the future,” says Riddell.
Recognizable impact
Record-setting crowds and the tournament’s unique charitable fundraising program — Rogers Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink — have captured the attention of those around the PGA TOUR Champions.
“Calgary is a good golf town. There are a lot of knowledgeable fans. The sponsor, Rogers, along with local businesses, are really behind this event. And there are a lot of great volunteers,” says pro golfer Jeff Maggert, who won the 2015 tournament. “When you put all those together, it just leads to a very successful event. And obviously, the money they’ve been able to raise for charity has just been unbelievable.”
The Rogers Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink charitable giving program provides corporations and individual donors alike the opportunity to make a gift to one of the more than 300 youth-based charities the tournament has aligned itself with. The donations are further leveraged through a matching program that provides participating charities with additional funds of up to 50 per cent of what they raise.
So whether it’s testing your mettle against the greats of the game of golf in one of the championship Pro-Ams, enjoying the tournament’s Women’s Day, interacting with the family-friendly crowd or hosting VIPs in style, the Rogers Charity Classic provides a lifetime of great memories.
