Pokaiks ‘The Children’ Commemorative Walk & Gathering

Join the Pokaiks Reconciliation Society for its annual reconciliation walk and event on September 30th. It begins with an 11 a.m. walk that will travel from the Peace Bridge to Contemporary Calgary, where there will be opening/closing ceremonies, traditional Indigenous performances, workshops, Elder storytelling sessions, artisan showcases and more at the art gallery until 5:30 p.m.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation with the Calgary Public Library

This year, mark National Day for Truth and Reconciliation with the Calgary Public Library. On September 30th, there will be an author talk with Angela Sterritt on the UCalgary campus, or you can visit Indigenous Placemaking installations at 10 Calgary Library locations from 12 to 5 p.m.

Speak Up! at the National Music Centre

On September 30, the National Music Centre is offering free admission, and it’s a great opportunity to visit the Speak Up! exhibition that showcases the work of several Indigenous musical artists. At 1 p.m., you can also attend a panel featuring Rex Smallboy (War Party), Curt Young, Wendy Walker and host Drezus that will discuss music and reconciliation.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Events with the Werklund Centre

Head to the Werklund Centre on September 30 to experience a variety of free events being held to mark National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (some require advance registration). There will be an Indigenous makers market and pow wow showcase, a performance of Echoes of the Land, the Elders Story Project event and more.

Orange Shirt Day at The Confluence

The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland is offering free admission on September 30, as well as programming like walking tours, play performances of We Are All Treaty People, a storytelling session with Kainai Elder Minipoka Peter Weasel Moccasin and more. Guests are encouraged to wear orange.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation at Heritage Park

Heritage Park is hosting a full day of programming on September 30 to mark National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. In addition to activities like a Round/Friendship/Reconciliation Dance, traditional Indigenous games and an Indigenous market, guests can attend talk/performance sessions like Reconciliation Stories of Strength and Reconciliation Truthing: Paralleling Story and Practice. Some events may require advance registration.
