Explore an exhibit about the restoration of the historic Lougheed House

Calgary’s historic Lougheed House celebrates its 20th year as a museum with The Return of Restore & Revive exhibit that highlights the house’s restoration in the 1990s. The historic site was once home to politician Sir James Lougheed and his wife Lady Isabella Hardisty Lougheed, who originally built the mansion in 1891. At the exhibit, see photos, artifacts and read recounts of the individuals who restored the space.

See a film about Calgary’s Plus 15 system on the big screen

When: February 9

The Design Talks Institute and Downtown Core Neighbourhood Association present a screening of Waydowntown for its 25 movie anniversary. The 2000 movie takes place among the infamous connected walkways of downtown Calgary’s Plus 15 system. In the film, a group of coworkers bet a month’s salary on who can remain inside the maze of corporate buildings connected by the Plus 15 system for as long as possible. After the movie, hear an exclusive interview with writer and director Gary Burns about making Waydowntown.

Learn about Calgary’s mid-century architecture at a Heritage Calgary talk

Learn about a golden age of Calgary’s architectural history at the Heritage Matters: Calgary’s Mid-Century Modern Marvels information session. Guest speaker Darrel Babuk from Edmonton-based architecture firm Boreas Architecture & Civic Design will explore how community-led architecture projects in the ‘60s shaped that era in Calgary’s history, as well as how those projects continue to shape the city today. From 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., learn how the city’s past lives on through its buildings and people.
