Made in Calgary: Gradient Beverages’ Inversion Nitro Cocktails Deliver a Bar-Quality Drink in a Can

Gradient Beverages has been innovating ready-to-drink alcoholic beverages since 2020, when co-founders John Eresman, Trisha Woodlock and Josh Woodlock created their Gradient vodka sodas, a numbered pack of six drinks with varying alcohol strengths so people could start with the strongest and then drink less and less throughout the night.

Since then, the trio has launched several beverage lines under Gradient Beverages, including their newest innovation, the Inversion Nitro Cocktails. The pre-mixed canned cocktails are infused with nitrogen foam that offers a smooth taste and texture that’s usually only achievable with a bartender’s shaker tin.

“It’s fun you get to play bartender for five seconds, because when you shake it you reintegrate the nitrogen into the liquid, and you’re actually developing foam within the can. That allows us to create that full cocktail experience,” says Eresman.

The current Inversion Nitro Cocktails lineup includes a whisky sour, classic margarita, elderflower gin sour and passion fruit mai tai, plus a non-alcoholic option. The elderflower gin sour is a popular flavour with hints of lemon mixed with elderflower liqueur. All flavours are currently available in four packs or you can get a variety pack with all four core alcoholic flavours.
