With more than 30 years of experience in animal care, wildlife conservation and business leadership, Burks, together with the talented executive team and staff, is set to lead the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo to new heights anchored by an ambitious vision: a future where people and wildlife thrive, together.

A passion for conservation and excellence

Burks joins the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo from his role as the chief operating officer at Audubon Nature Institute in New Orleans. His extensive background includes key leadership positions at the Sacramento Zoo, Denver Zoo and The Walt Disney Company, where he shaped strategies to drive both animal care excellence and impactful conservation efforts.
