Shaping the Future of AI-Driven Business

by Paula Martinez

The inaugural Future Summit, a three-day tech and AI conference, is launching in November. Taking place at the BMO Centre in Calgary, the summit will bring together tech industry innovators from across the globe from November 18-20. With a heavy focus on artificial intelligence, the summit lies at the very cutting edge of tech advancements. But this isn’t a theoretical exercise; real-world applications of AI in business and industry are at the core of the project.

“Future Summit is more than an event — it’s a global platform for leaders and innovators to shape the future of AI-driven business,” says Josh Rainbow, founder of Future Summit. “We’re not just talking about AI’s potential; we’re bringing together the people who are making it reality across every major industry. Calgary’s robust tech ecosystem and world-class facilities make this the perfect setting to define how AI transforms the global economy.”

Calgary as a tech hub

The event will feature curated executive events, groundbreaking keynotes, dynamic panels and hands-on workshops for those looking to expand their knowledge base and discover the potential game-changing nature of real-world AI applications.

“Future Summit will showcase why Calgary isn’t just participating in the AI revolution — we’re helping lead it. This isn’t just another tech conference; it’s where the future of AI-driven business gets written,” says Rainbow.

Alberta has some distinct advantages that could position the province as a future AI and data infrastructure hub. Considerable space for building, cheap and clean energy, an abundant natural gas supply and a milder climate for hyperscale cooling all make it a great place to house the data centres and large-scale computing relied upon by AI.

Calgary’s tech industry is already expanding apace. According to a 2024 CBRE report, the city’s tech workforce expanded 7.5 per cent in 2023 and an impressive 78 per cent over the past five years. The industry as a whole contributed $8.1 billion to the local economy over the past three years.

“Future Summit is the perfect stage to showcase how our region continues to lead this innovation, from reshaping business verticals, unlocking new hyper-growth opportunities and positioning Canada as a global powerhouse in the AI-first economy,” says one of the conference’s speakers, Harish Consul, founder and CEO of Ocgrow Ventures. “I’m honoured to share how Alberta’s vision and momentum are positioning us as a powerhouse for AI-driven business globally.”

“Alberta has it all and the people to make it come true,” adds Ian MacGregor, founder of North West Digital Power, who will also speak at the summit. “Future Summit is a great way to bring the users, builders, regulators and owners together and see what happens.”

Real-world impact

Covering AI’s potential in industries ranging from the energy sector and aerospace to cybersecurity and fintech, Future Summit will offer actionable ideas and applications for a wide array of businesses. High-calibre networking opportunities range from Fortune 500 executives to influential venture capitalists and leaders in the AI space. Industry titans like AWS, 1Password, Moveworks.ai, Ragie.ai, Enverus, Stripe and Bennett Jones have signed on as partners. Other partners include local companies and agencies, including Tourism Calgary and Calgary Economic Development.

“Our city continues to defy perceptions. The growth of our ecosystem continues to lead most markets in North America, and the latest CBRE report showcased that Calgary is the fastest-growing tech hub for the second year in a row. This is a testament to the work across our community and the laser focus on being Canada’s innovation capital,” says Brad Perry, CEO and president of Calgary Economic Development. “This growth will be led by the work being done in not only the AI space, but across other disciplines like quantum and others. Future Summit is a key event in helping the rest of the country and world see what is happening and what’s possible in the Blue Sky City.”

Everyone will leave with key takeaways for the future of AI. Future Summit is just as much for early-stage founders as it is for policymakers and top-tier executives.
