Where to Watch Outdoor Movies in Calgary

Outdoor movie watching is an experience that induces a wave of nostalgia. Maybe your family used to pile into a 1950s Cadillac and drive to the nearest drive-in theatre with plenty of blankets and snacks. Or maybe you used to set up lawn chairs in the back of a pick-up truck for an outdoor movie screening.

Although there aren’t many permanent drive-in theatres these days, thankfully, there are still places to catch a flick outdoors. Here are a few of the outdoor movie screening events happening in Calgary this summer.

Midway and a Movie

When: July 25, August 23 and September 12, 2025

An outdoor movie screening, midway rides, snacks like mini doughnuts and poutine — there’s plenty of fun to be had at Heritage Park’s outdoor movie night series this summer. Depending on which night you attend, you could see movies like The Goonies, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade or Zombieland.

Trico Centre’s 5th Annual Movie in the Park

When: August 10, 2025

This movie night, which will screen The Incredibles, is hosted by Trico Centre for Family Wellness on the centre’s ball diamond. Admission is free for members, or you can pay $20 for a family or $5 for a single admission.

Movie on The Rise

When: August 20, 2025

Movie on The Rise is back at St. Patrick’s Island with a double feature you can watch from the hill. Check back soon for more details.

Bowness Music & Movie in the Park

When: August 23, 2025

Don’t miss this outdoor screening of Cool Runnings in Bowness. Before the movie, shop at the artisan market and enjoy some live music, then settle in to watch the film at 9 p.m.

Movie in the Park

When: September 12, 2025

The summer movie fun extends into September with the return of the annual Movie in the Park event in Sunalta. Bring a blanket (and buy some mini doughnuts) before watching the free screening.
